PKS BUSINESS

We are expanding our overseas PKS business in order to secure a stable supply of biomass fuel.

In 2009, we established a local group company, Human & Eco Energy Resources Dev't (M) Sdn Bhd, in Bintulu, Malaysia, and began exporting PKS to Japan.
Then, in 2013, we established our second local group company, PT Biomass Fuel Indonesia in Padang, Sumatra.
Since then, we have been strengthening the functions of our cargo bases in both countries, and we have established a framework to flexibly and stably supply PKS to meet the demand for biomass fuels in Japan.
In the future, we will continue to further expand Biomass Fuel Co., Ltd.'s base locations in both Malaysia and Indonesia so that we can further strengthen our stable supply system for PKS.

About PKS (Palm Kernel Shell)

PKS is the shell of a palm kernel, or palm seed. Palm fruit was first used to make palm oil. Palm oil is an extract that uses the filling of the palm fruit.The portions of the shell not used to create palm oil is referred to as PKS.
The calorific value of PKS is around 3500 to 3800㎉per 1 kg.
The calorific values of equivalent biomass fuels is around 2100 ㎉ for wood chips and 3800 ㎉ for wood pellets. Therefore, it can be said that PKS produces heat efficiently with its high level calorific value.

Through a series of processes, we have reduced transportation costs by shipping from bases located in the vicinity of ports, and by obtaining both plant inspection and fumigation certification after fumigating onboard ships (using methyl bromide and phosphine). In this manner, we have built up trust with our customers.

  1. 01Oil Mill

    Biomass Fuel, Ltd., employees regularly visit each oil mill to carry out product inspections.
    The plant environment is also checked at the same time to ensure that the PKS stock is not stored in locations where it can be easily contaminated with foreign materials, etc.
    We make contracts directly with local companies and oil mills for stable procurement of PKS.

  2. 02Quality Check When Accepting Goods at the Stock Yard

    The quality of the PKS can differ at each plant.
    When accepting deliveries of PKS, our experienced staff inspect for foreign materials contamination and check the moisture content. Dry/wet mixing ratios are also recorded for each truck.

  3. 03Thorough Removal of Foreign Materials

    Foreign materials mixed in with the PKS are removed using a screening machine. Our team of quality control operators will then carry out visual inspections to further remove any remaining foreign materials.
    Fibers can be a difficult to remove foreign materials. Therefore, we use large scale fans and blowers to remove just the fibers from PKS that has been screened with the screening machine.

  4. 04Management of Moisture Content

    The moisture content is controlled through thorough management.
    In addition to allowing PKS to dry naturally in good weather, a shovel car is used in covered warehouses. In such a case, the PKS is repeatedly stirred while a large scale fan is used to blow air on it.
    The PKS is covered with a sheet during rainfall to prevent exposure to the rain.
    With thorough moisture content management performed in this manner, we are able to provide a high quality standard that meets your needs.

  5. 05Delivering

    Ships are loaded using a conveyor or bucket system depending on the facilities at each port.
    We aim to ship with the highest quality by carrying out further visual inspects to remove foreign matter even during loadings.
